Access to Work support for Neurodivergent Employees and Business Owners

Being neurodivergent can bring unique strengths to the workplace and business. But sometimes, the traditional work environment can create challenges. If you have ADHD or are autistic, you might find yourself struggling with things like organization, communication, or sensory overload.

The good news? There’s a fantastic program in the UK called Access to Work that can help!

This government-funded scheme offers practical and financial support to people with disabilities, including neurodivergence.

Here’s how Access to Work can help you thrive at work or in your business:

  • Work support needs assessment: Access to Work can offer an assessment through a third party to explore and suggest various support options to alleviate some of your struggles.
  • Tailored solutions: The support you receive depends on your specific needs. This might include:
    • ADHD coaching: Get help with energy management to avoid burnout, time management, organisation, and focus.
    • Assistive technology: Software for things like text-to-speech or noise cancellation headphones.
    • Support in work: Admin, travel, accountability support
    • Communication support: Assistance with written communication, meetings, or presentations.
    • Travel to/from or in Work

The Benefits of Applying

By utilizing Access to Work, you can:

  • Increase productivity and focus: Having the right support in place can help you perform at your best.
  • Reduce stress and anxiety to avoid Burnout: Feeling overwhelmed at work can be a major source of stress. Access to Work can help alleviate that burden.
  • Boost confidence and self-esteem: When you can work to your strengths, it feels empowering!

Getting Started with Access to Work

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Eligibility: You can apply if you’re 16 or over, work in the UK (full-time, part-time, or self-employed), and have a disability (including ADHD or autism).
  • Formal diagnosis not required: You don’t necessarily need a formal diagnosis to apply.
  • Employer involvement: While your employer doesn’t need to contribute a significant amount, it’s a good idea to discuss your application with them beforehand. They can be a great source of support!
